SYNOPSIS

“Androgynimalia” seeks to tell the story of self-reckoning that we each must go through on our paths to find our identities. Genetics aside, we all have both the “feminine” and the “masculine” inside of us when we are born - how the environment responds to each person, and how they in turn respond to that environment, often determines identity assignment. Which attributes are rewarded and which are rejected by parents and peers plays a part, in molding the individual, who inherently wants to be understood and acknowledged. “Androgynimalia” endeavors to track the moment of self-reconciliation within the individual; to find a place of gender neutrality in the movement, mirroring the male and female dancers to create a scope through which to see the two internal “selves” as they meet, struggle, and ultimately move together as one.
